Company History

Prior to ContainerWorld, from 1979 to 1993 Dennis Chrismas was employed by a major transportation company providing forwarding, warehousing and distribution services to the import beverage alcohol industry of British Columbia. In 1991 this company was sold and for the next two years Dennis continued in his role as Vice President and General Manager. In April 1993, after 19 years, he decided it was time for a change. In June 1993 he founded ContainerWorld Forwarding Services Inc. His vision was to provide the alcohol beverage importers of BC with an alternative logistics service provider, one which would consider exceptional customer service, innovation and technology to be the foundation of success. Dennis believed... "if you build it they will come".

The Early Years (1993 - 1995)

In the beginning we were two employees sharing a borrowed office on West Broadway in Vancouver; here is where the foundation of ContainerWorld was put together and our vision began to take shape. Warehousing was to be part of our service package and because we did not have our own facility we employed the services of a Delta based 3rd party warehouse operator, who also provided our first office to call our own.

  • July 1993 - Our warehouse operator's bond was approved for 15,000 ft.
  • July 1993 - First customer onboard
  • January 1994 - Extended our International Forwarding services to include Alberta
  • June 1995 - Warehouse space increased to 30,000 ft.

The Middle Years (1996 - 2006)

In 1996, to fulfill our need for additional warehouse space and more importantly to control the service level being provided by the warehouse operation, the Company launched its own warehouse, operated by ContainerWorld employees. This facility was located on Annacis Island, Delta B.C. and was our head office and primary distribution center for the next several years.

  • February 1996 - CW warehouse opens a 30,000 ft. facility with the opportunity to expand
  • 1998 - Warehouse has expanded to 143,000 ft.
  • March 2001 - CW launches an interactive Customer Access online website
  • September 2001 - Acquired the assets of Commercial Logistics Inc. (CLI), providing ContainerWorld with its own trucking fleet and an additional 108,000 ft. of warehouse space
  • September 2001 - Services expand to include alcoholic beverage direct distribution within BC
  • January 2003 - Warehouse expands 60,000 ft. providing a total of 311,000 ft.
  • June 2004 - Competitor closes, CW acquires customer base, requiring an additional 114,000 ft.

Where Are We Now (2007 - today)

As a result of warehouse expansion, by 2004 our operations were spread over three separate facilities - two in Delta and a third in West Richmond. Recognizing our need to consolidate operations, in 2004 the Company entered into discussions to design and construct a new ContainerWorld distribution center. Four years in the making, in January 2008 ContainerWorld moved into its new distribution facility and Head Office, known as the Richmond Distribution Center (RDC).

  • January 2008 - RDC officially opens, a 496,000 ft. facility with 107 truck bays
  • October 2010 - CLI purchases a new cross-dock facility in Kamloops, B.C.
  • February 2012 - CW launches a new Customer Access online website
  • November 2013 - New Kelowna Warehouse 40,000 ft.
  • November 2013 - Expanded RDC cooler 20,000 ft.
  • February 2014 - Implemented WMS with Voice Pick
  • June 2014 - RDC warehouse expansion 647,000 ft.
